As a beginner with Roku, adding streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+, and HBO Max to the home interface is a common initial step.
After installing these applications, users often face a challenge in repositioning the icons. For instance, popular options such as Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video may end up scattered across the layout rather than prioritized at the forefront.
Certain apps, including People TV and the Getting Started channel from Roku, might no longer be needed and require removal.
For those unfamiliar with Roku, adjusting or eliminating home screen icons can seem difficult due to the lack of visible controls for reorganization.
Seasoned users rely on a simple method: the asterisk (*) key, also known as Options, which displays relevant menu choices when activated. Mastering this button makes customizing the home screen straightforward.
To begin with repositioning apps, access the Home section on the primary Roku interface, press the right arrow (>) on the remote, and highlight the desired app icon.
Then, press the asterisk (*) button to bring up a menu featuring various functions, including update checks, app removal, and more.
Look for the 'Move app' choice, or 'Move app to top' if the icon is not yet in the first row. Opt for the top placement to elevate it immediately, or use 'Move app' for precise adjustments.
The icons will reappear, with the chosen one outlined by directional arrows.
Employ the remote's arrow buttons to shift the icon to the preferred spot, then confirm by pressing OK. The arrangement is now complete.
Removing an app icon is equally simple, though deleting it from the home screen does not cancel any linked subscriptions, such as those for Hulu or Max.
Before proceeding, verify your subscription status to avoid unexpected billing. Subscriptions could be managed directly with the provider, through Roku, or via another channel.
To check Roku-managed subscriptions, log in to my.roku.com and go to Manage Your Subscriptions. If the app appears there, cancel it if it's no longer required.
Absence from the list indicates a direct subscription, third-party arrangement, or a free app without ongoing costs.
After confirming subscription details, removal follows a process akin to moving: select the app, press the asterisk (*) (Options) button, and choose 'Remove app.'
