Following the primary Windows 11 update released in January, various glitches have emerged. One prominent problem involves users facing difficulties in properly powering off their computers or entering sleep mode.
Recent findings indicate that the glitch impacts a larger number of devices. Beyond the initial reports, the Windows 11 23H2 edition is also vulnerable, and the issue extends to Windows 10 installations as well.
On its dedicated support document, Microsoft outlines the affected software versions and attributes the problem to the System Guard Secure Launch feature. Designed as a security measure to activate solely during boot-up for threat mitigation, it unexpectedly hinders the shutdown process on compromised devices. The Virtual Secure Mode (VSM) seems to contribute to this malfunction.
Earlier, Microsoft announced that an urgent patch had rectified the defect. Yet, in an update, the firm acknowledges that the glitch lingers on certain machines, lacking a complete resolution.
Microsoft states it is developing a comprehensive fix applicable to both Windows 11 and Windows 10. In the interim, users can force a shutdown via the Command Prompt by entering the command shutdown /s /t 0.
