Enthusiasts of vintage aesthetics in computing hardware often appreciate the distinctive features of Silverstone's FLP lineup, which combines nostalgic beige designs with practical advantages not commonly found in contemporary enclosures, all while supporting full ATX motherboards. The latest model introduces a more compact profile without eliminating the characteristic front-panel drive bays.
The FLP03 maintains the upright mid-tower structure of its predecessor, the FLP02, but adapts to MicroATX dimensions for a reduced footprint compared to traditional towers, though it remains larger than mini-ITX configurations. It can accommodate a Mini-ITX board if desired. Details emerged from the spec sheet displayed at the Silverstone Expo 2025 in Akihabara, as highlighted by Twitter/X user Hito, revealing the inclusion of three 5.25-inch front bays typically reserved for optical drives like CDs and DVDs, a feature rare in today's cases.
As reported by Tom's Hardware, the FLP03 mirrors the FLP02 in most aspects, trading off certain 3.5-inch drive mounts and fan mounting areas to achieve a shorter height of 456mm (17.95 inches), down from the FLP02's 494mm (19.45 inches). The exhibited prototype featured the established model's integrated lock, power switch, and numeric LED indicator.
Silverstone's official measurements indicate the FLP03 extends slightly further in depth to 477mm and narrows to 220mm in width. This adjustment limits cooling options to a single 180mm intake fan at the front—or equivalents in 140mm or 120mm sizes—along with a compact 120mm exhaust at the back. The roof supports up to three 120mm or two 140mm fans, enabling a 360mm radiator installation that would obstruct the uppermost 5.25-inch bay.
Graphics card compatibility improves in the FLP03, supporting lengths up to 412mm, surpassing the FLP02's 386mm limit, possibly incorporating user suggestions for enhanced gaming setups. However, the shift to MicroATX restricts motherboard choices, which are generally less common and costlier than ATX options, potentially complicating powerful configurations.
The FLP02 has yet to see broad retail distribution, with no major outlets listing it for purchase. In contrast, the original horizontal FLP01 is available through select retailers such as Micro Center and as a pre-assembled system from Main Gear. Wider access to the full FLP series is anticipated in the coming year.
