The Swiss firm Proton has steadily expanded its collection of privacy-focused tools for productivity, including Proton Mail for secure emailing, Proton VPN for protected internet access, Proton Pass for handling passwords, and Proton Drive for safeguarded file storage.

Proton is enhancing its suite of business applications by introducing Proton Sheets, a fresh web-based tool for managing spreadsheets integrated into Proton Drive. Positioned as a competitor to Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, its primary advantage lies in the inherent end-to-end encryption, which ensures that no one, not even Proton, can view the contents of users' data files.

Users holding a Proton Drive subscription can access Proton Sheets at no extra cost. The service provides a no-fee option with 5GB of space, alongside premium tiers offering expanded limits: Drive Plus with 200GB for $4.99 per month, Proton Unlimited with 500GB for $12.99 per month, and Proton Duo with 2TB for $19.99 per month.

Beyond file hosting, Proton Drive incorporates Proton Docs for secure document editing and Proton Photos for organizing images with encryption. The addition of Sheets positions Proton as a serious competitor to Microsoft and Google, particularly as more people seek alternatives to dominant tech companies amid rising worries about data privacy.
