Scott Hanselman, a long-time Microsoft employee serving as Vice President of Developer Community, has developed an handy Windows application named Peek Desktop, available at no charge through GitHub.

After setup, users can tap on the bare desktop background to swiftly conceal all active windows and programs, simplifying access to desktop icons and directories.

To restore the hidden windows and applications, simply tap the desktop background once more or select the taskbar, and all elements will reappear in their previous positions.

This functionality closely resembles a capability introduced in macOS Sonoma, as Hanselman has openly acknowledged basing his creation on that Apple system element.

The tool debuted just two days prior and has undergone nine updates, progressing from version 0.1 to 0.6.2, each incorporating minor refinements. It offers practical value, and there is optimism that it could eventually integrate as a built-in option in Windows 11.
