Artificial intelligence applications are increasingly adopting agent-like capabilities, allowing them to execute tasks independently. Microsoft is eager to participate in this trend and encourage adoption of its Copilot platform through the introduction of an innovative agent-based AI feature named Copilot Tasks.

According to Microsoft, Copilot Tasks functions as an automated task manager that completes assignments without user intervention. Users can direct it to manage routine activities, for instance, generating a weekly schedule each Monday or scanning the inbox each evening to highlight key messages and propose responses.

Among its features, Copilot Tasks can organize, reserve, distribute, and gather confirmations for birthday celebrations, monitor active subscriptions and terminate unnecessary ones, as well as search for, evaluate, and arrange services from suitable professionals when required.

The company notes that these advanced agent functionalities remain in the 'research preview' stage, indicating a potential delay before wider availability. Those interested in accessing a beta version of Copilot Tasks may join the waitlist.
