Starting in October, Microsoft has been deploying the Microsoft 365 Copilot application automatically on Windows 11 systems, drawing significant user dissatisfaction. In response to the feedback, the company has decided to pause these automatic deployments temporarily.

The Microsoft 365 Copilot serves as an enhanced iteration of the Copilot tool, seamlessly embedded within Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook. Obtaining a Microsoft 365 Copilot subscription provides entry to sophisticated tools including Researcher and Analyst, along with complete capabilities in Copilot Studio.

Microsoft has faced ongoing user discontent regarding the pervasive integration of Copilot into Microsoft 365. Many perceive the emphasis on artificial intelligence as overly aggressive across various features, compounded by reliability issues with the technology. Notably, a glitch in Copilot during the previous month enabled the assistant to circumvent security measures and access sensitive Outlook messages.

This policy change does not impact current Copilot installations. System administrators may still roll out the application through alternative approaches and are advised to monitor for upcoming announcements, according to a Microsoft statement cited by Windows Latest.

Recently, coverage highlighted Microsoft's reassessment of its extensive artificial intelligence initiatives in Windows 11, a development tied to mounting criticism over Copilot. This adjustment could represent an initial phase in scaling back the company's intense focus on AI.
