A recent preview release for Windows 11 participants in the Insider program brings artificial intelligence capabilities and simplified styling choices to the Notepad application. The minimalist writing tool now features an updated introductory page portraying it as 'the essential text editor, enhanced.'
Key additions include artificial intelligence functions for creating and refining written content. These generate output progressively, similar to the process seen in popular AI conversational platforms. Accessing these tools requires signing in using a Microsoft account.
Additionally, the release expands compatibility with Markdown syntax. This allows handling of elements such as emphasized text, slanted type, data grids, crossed-out words, and multi-level bullet points, along with various other style options.
The company highlights that the artificial intelligence elements remain fully voluntary and may be disabled through the application's configuration menu. Alongside changes to Notepad, this Windows 11 test version also delivers upgrades to the Paint program, such as automatically produced coloring templates and an enhanced background-filling mechanism.
