Reports from Android Authority indicate that YouTube intends to trial an innovative AI tool powered by Gemini on smart televisions, enabling viewers to engage with their screens through queries about ongoing content, skips to particular moments, and similar actions via text inputs or spoken instructions.
The tool, dubbed 'Ask,' draws from Google's Gemini virtual assistant. Users can access it via a dedicated 'Ask' icon, then respond to suggested queries or pose custom ones through the remote's built-in mic.
While this capability already exists on YouTube's apps for phones and browsers, the trial targets TV environments including Google TV, Samsung's Tizen system, LG's webOS, video game consoles, and media streaming devices.
The initial phase will introduce the test to a limited group of participants, with potential broader deployment influenced by user feedback.
