Google's NotebookLM tool, popular among learners, has offered AI-created spoken overviews for some time. Now, this capability is expanding to Google Docs. Yesterday, the firm revealed that its Gemini AI within Docs can deliver vocal recaps of document contents.
These AI-produced audio overviews may extend to several minutes, drawing details from various sections of the file. Users can find the option under the Tools section's Audio submenu in Google Docs. This triggers a compact audio interface allowing speed adjustments between 0.5x and 2x, plus voice selections like narrator, persuader, or coach for the narration.
The rollout started yesterday and could require up to two weeks to reach all users. Access is limited to Google AI Pro and Ultra plan holders, Business and Enterprise users, plus an optional add-on for Google Education users.
