SunnyWhale, a company based in the San Francisco Bay Area, presented a prototype of its debut offering at CES 2026. This advanced setup, known as FinWhale, handles pool water analysis and chemical addition. The product's name honors the fin whale, the world's largest creature that filters its food from seawater, influencing the design concept.

The FinWhale unit is an independent floater, comparable in scale to a one-gallon milk container. While drifting atop the pool, it evaluates temperature, free chlorine concentrations, and pH values, maintaining a historical record accessible via its dedicated smartphone application. Solar panels keep the internal battery charged during operation, and the system transmits real-time data to SunnyWhale's online platform using Wi-Fi connectivity.

Embedded within the FinWhale is a compartment capable of storing up to six regular chlorine pucks. It actively tracks the pool's free chlorine, temperature, and pH levels, then releases chlorine as required to uphold balance.

Unlike typical pool water trackers, FinWhale stands out with its combined chlorine delivery feature. Twisting off the upper section exposes a storage area designed to accommodate as many as six standard chlorine tablets.

Owners can adjust preferred thresholds in the FinWhale app, enabling the tablets to contact pool water exclusively when free chlorine falls to levels needing replenishment. SunnyWhale indicates that a fully loaded set of tablets generally sustains performance for around three weeks prior to refill.

The primary Auto Mode supports daily routines, complemented by a Vacation Mode option. This alternative engages a minimal-energy pattern to preserve water composition across extended times, tailored for homeowners during long absences.

FinWhale suits pools with capacities of 20,000 gallons or smaller, remaining installed over winter barring ice formation, due to its IP68 environmental protection. SunnyWhale projects a service life of two to three years in standard settings, involving approximately yearly sensor updates. No price has been established yet, though the firm aims to confirm it before the anticipated third-quarter 2026 availability.
