Google has resolved a security issue in Chrome updates version 143.0.7499.192/193 for Windows and macOS systems, as well as 143.0.7499.192 for Linux users. The company states that no real-world attacks have taken advantage of this flaw so far.

A post on the Chrome Releases blog by Harry Souders offers limited information about the patched issue, which an independent security expert brought to Google's attention. Labeled as CVE-2026-0628, the flaw carries a high-severity rating and affects the WebView feature due to inconsistent application of certain security rules, described as 'insufficient policy enforcement.' For instance, this might allow external content to load without proper origin verification, bypassing protections like the same-origin policy. The report came from Gal Weizman in late November.

Typically, Chrome handles updates on its own once a fresh release is ready, though users can force a check via the Help > About Google Chrome option in the menu. An update for Chrome on Android, version 143.0.7499.193, is now available, addressing the identical issues found in the desktop editions. Additionally, the Extended Stable Channel for Windows and macOS features the refreshed Chromium build 142.0.7499.265.

The rollout of Chrome 144 is scheduled for January 13, 2026.

Developers of browsers built on Chromium are urged to roll out their own fixes promptly. At present, Microsoft Edge and Brave run on Chromium 143, maintaining the security posture from before the holidays.

Vivaldi skips over odd-numbered Chromium releases like 143, opting instead for the Extended Stable Channel from the prior even version. Its release Vivaldi 7.7.3851.66, dated December 17, 2025, incorporates Chromium 142.0.7444.245. The channel now offers Chromium 142.0.7444.265, which Vivaldi is expected to adopt soon for a swift patch. In parallel, the team is advancing Vivaldi 7.8 based on Chromium 144.

Opera One 125, launched on December 4, 2025, and powered by Chromium 141, has temporarily caught up with rivals. That said, Google hasn't issued patches for this Chromium branch since October 2025. The beta for Opera 126 uses Chromium 142, poised for a stable release update in the coming days.
