Users of ChatGPT will encounter a reduced selection of AI options for interactions in the near future. The company behind the tool has revealed plans to phase out multiple outdated versions of its GPT series.
Specifically, as of February 13—a Friday two weeks from now—OpenAI intends to eliminate access to the GPT-4o, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, and OpenAI o4-mini variants within ChatGPT. Company officials indicate that this change should have minimal impact on the majority of individuals, noting a widespread transition to the GPT-5.2 model, while daily usage of GPT-4o remains limited to just 0.1 percent of the user base.
OpenAI has previously retired the GPT-4o model as well. It was supplanted by GPT-5 during August of the prior year, only to be reinstated following complaints from the community. Insights from that episode reportedly contributed to refinements in the firm's most recent AI developments.
