In the middle of October, researchers examining data uncovered hints in a beta release of ChatGPT suggesting the introduction of multi-user discussions within the platform. OpenAI has now officially announced that the tool will enable conversations involving as many as 20 individuals.

The company views these multi-user sessions as a way for households, social circles, and professional teams to leverage ChatGPT for organizing seasonal activities, reserving dining spots, or outlining fresh initiatives.

Users can access group discussions through the ChatGPT mobile application or the online version while signed in. Initiating one involves selecting the fresh symbol located in the upper-right area of the interface, whether from a fresh thread or an active one, followed by deciding recipients for the shared access link.

When adding participants to an existing discussion, the system preserves a personal duplicate of the dialogue apart from the emerging collective exchange. This new session appears in its own section within the ChatGPT sidebar.

Upon first launching a multi-user conversation in ChatGPT, participants must set up a brief bio including their full name, handle, and image to simplify identification among members.

The rollout of this multi-user capability in ChatGPT begins exclusively in New Zealand, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea, accessible to subscribers of both the standard and premium tiers.
