This capability enables individuals to acquire goods directly within the ongoing conversation or search results without navigating away. Transactions support Google Pay and PayPal as payment methods.
Concurrently, the firm is presenting the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open framework designed to promote smooth interactions between diverse AI assistants, payment processors, and e-commerce platforms. The system aligns with established standards such as Agent2Agent (A2A), Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), and Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Development of the UCP involved partnerships with key retailers like Shopify, Etsy, Walmart, and Target. Over 20 further organizations, including Mastercard and Visa, provide endorsement for it.
Access to the Checkout feature in Gemini and AI Mode remains limited to users in the United States at this time.
