Recent developments in AI technologies such as Claude Code and Codex have demonstrated their ability to generate applications and websites through intuitive descriptions, yet this represents only the beginning of their potential. One intriguing application lies in personalizing social media timelines.

Developers at Bluesky have introduced Attie, described as the inaugural 'agentic' application designed for atproto, the open-source framework supporting Bluesky and various other decentralized social platforms.

Similar to other AI-driven creation tools including Claude Code, Codex, and Loveable, Attie—in its current closed beta phase—offers users a straightforward conversation interface rather than complex selection options or search terms typically found in interest-based settings.

Through everyday language inputs, individuals can specify their desired content for social timelines, ranging from requests like 'display artwork from followed accounts along with comparable artists' to 'highlight technology updates while excluding cryptocurrency controversies,' allowing Attie to construct a personalized feed accordingly.

Interim Bluesky CEO Toni Schneider explained during her presentation at the ATmosphere Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, over the recent weekend, that Attie extends beyond mere social media discovery capabilities.

Utilizing Anthropic's Claude model, Attie empowers users to manage their connections and interactions in manners unavailable on proprietary platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and X. 'You manage it and customize it without needing programming skills or feed configuration knowledge,' Schneider shared with TechCrunch. 'This is an AI solution centered on enhancing user experience.'

While the idea appears promising in theory, Attie has faced criticism from community members who migrated to Bluesky specifically to escape algorithmic interference in their content streams.

One Bluesky participant commented, 'We reject and have no use for AI-driven systems or recommendations. This diverts resources and risks alienating the platform's community.'

A Reddit user added, 'I've achieved the interaction style I prefer by selecting accounts to follow and muting unwanted ones. No large language model is necessary for this.'

At launch, Attie functions as an independent application for generating and accessing bespoke social feeds, with intentions to integrate its customization features into Bluesky and additional services compatible with atproto.

Furthermore, Bluesky leaders noted at the ATmosphere event that Attie might enable non-experts to develop personalized social environments using Bluesky's open AT Protocol.
