Microsoft launched its initial 2026 security update for Windows 10, designated as KB5073724. The patch targets systems running Windows 10 version 21H2, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, and Windows 10 version 22H2, provided users are enrolled in the Extended Security Updates program.
With Windows 10 limited to security enhancements and no longer gaining fresh capabilities, KB5073724 focuses exclusively on bolstering defenses by patching recently identified vulnerabilities in the OS.
This release incorporates safeguards that Microsoft had earlier deployed in December 2025 through updates KB5071546 and KB5074976.
Currently, Microsoft reports no disruptions for individual consumers during the installation of KB5073724 on Windows 10 devices. However, it could lead to complications in Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365 environments.
Users can acquire KB5073724 via the January 2026 Patch Tuesday rollout from Microsoft, where it installs without user intervention. To ensure it's applied, one can trigger a check for available updates within the Windows Update interface if needed.
Alternatively, the update is accessible straight from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
